It all started from a beach. I was standing and looking at the moods of the beach and suddenly something attracted me. A boy nearly of 6-7 years of age was throwing something from the ground back to the sea.
I went near him and looked at what was he throwing. It was a starfish which the sea threw back. I asked him his name. He replied bluntly without even looking at my face, “Alex”.
“What are you doing?”,
“I’m throwing back the fishes to the sea. I’ve to do it, or they will die.”
His innocence touched me.
“But there are 1000s of such fishes in the coast and there are probably 100 such seas allover You cannot go everywhere and save lives. It doesn’t make any difference.”
He picked up a fish and threw it in the arms of the sea, “it did make a difference to that one”
The only way to give charity is not money. Don’t think you don’t have money for unprivileged/physically handicapped or that you don’t want to give. There are many other ways to reach out to these people. Even a smile costs nothing. Give that if can’t give anything else.
The other day I was coming back from my school by bus. An old lady asked me “where is this stop, I have to get down there” I was getting down there itself so I asked her to come with me. She asked me to help her cross the road. I helped her and the only thing she had was a smile. I have helped many but that day I experienced so much of joy which is unexplainable.
Be kind to everyone. Everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.
This Diwali instead of giving time to your crackers give some time to those who actually need it. Your love and your affection, though for a few moments, if not in yours, it will make difference in their life. Just give whatever you can, even your time can make wonders.
